Cheers Cut – Hot Star + seafood
Cheers Cut is the another Taiwanese fried chicken take-away place similar to Hot-Star Chicken. Their differentiator is that they also offer fried octopus in the same style as the chicken. The chicken comes in two sizes 8oz or 12oz, why use ounces? this is not the US.
X-Large 12oz Crispy Chicken $9.50
The fried chicken or “giant” octopus comes in a variety of flavours, I tried the teriyaki one. I must admit I enjoyed the flavouring but that was the only good part. The meat was dry and a little sickening after a while (this probably cannot be enjoyed sobber).
The worst part was the wait, I don’t want raw chicken but a 30min wait is not acceptable. Another inconvenience was that the chicken was placed the “meat-first” leaving the bone on top. The whole piece of sticky chicken had to be removed from its cardboard wrap and turned around before being edible (may be they should have instructions for the staff to insert it the right way instead of these tips).
Conclusion
To be fair I didn’t highly rate Hot-Star but I still like it more than Cheers Cut. Too many things went wrong on this occasion and I probably will never try that giant squid. If you’re a big fan of Taiwanese fried chicken, give them a try hopefully they would have fixed the opening snags.
Would I go again?
